New Haven, CT based illustrator/painter/teacher Christopher Uminga likes to pain things that make him happy, including comic book character inspired pieces, and the tiny monsters he “sees in his head”. Given my love of comic book characters, I instantly loved his work. Here is a selection of his work inspired by comics, but you should absolutely check out his website (http://www.cuminga.com) to see more comic book characters and a huge selection of original work.
Apocalypse
One of the better villains in the Marvel/X-Men universe.
Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman
Three of the leaders of the Justice League, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t find the eyes just a bit creepy.
Boba Fett
I think it’s all time that we admit that it’s a bit weird how popular Boba Fett is given his limited screen time in the films.
Colossus
It’s nice having him back in the comics after an extended hiatus when everybody believed he was “dead”.
Two Face
A drawing of Two Face inspired by the recent Dark Knight film.
Deadpool
The Merc with a Mouth.
Harley Quinn
This picture reminds me of a slightly demonic character from the game Little Big Planet.
Hellboy
Fights evil, loves cats.
Mr. Freeze
I don’t think anybody will ever get over Arnold’s take on him in the disaster that was Batman & Robin.
The Incredible Hulk
Hulk sad.
The Joker
Arguably the most famous comic book villain of all time.
The Penguin
I would have liked to have seen Philip Seymour Hoffman portray him in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises.
The Scarecrow
Much creepier in the cartoons than he was on film.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
I can never see anything related to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles without feeling like I’m 9 again.
Wolverine
Easily the most popular of the X-Men.
Wonder Woman
Not sure how I feel about the upcoming television show based on the character, but only time will tell if it’s good or not.
