Propaganda posters have been used to convince populations that war was a necessity. Different governments during the first and second World Wars used propaganda posters to inspire hate and fear toward the enemy and pride and loyalty toward one’s own country and cause. So, when one looks at the Star Wars saga, there is a definite connection between the war between the Empire and the Alliance and the need to inspire, scare, and intimidate. Check out some of these very, very cool propaganda posters inspired by Star Wars, and see the bottom of the post for links to artist pages. All quotes taken from the original trilogy, and all are Rebel Scum Friendly. Why would you assume otherwise?
The Empire
“That blast came from the Death Star! That thing’s operational!”
“Never. I’ll never turn to the Dark Side. You’ve failed, your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me.”
“General Kenobi. Years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire. I regret that I am unable to convey my father’s request to you in person, but my ship has fallen under attack, and I’m afraid my mission to bring you to Alderaan has failed. I have placed information vital to the survival of the Rebellion into the memory systems of this R2 unit. My father will know how to retrieve it. You must see this droid safely delivered to him on Alderaan. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope. ”
“ A young Jedi named Darth Vader, who was a pupil of mine until he turned to evil, helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi knights. He betrayed and murdered your father. Now the Jedi are all but extinct. Vader was seduced by the dark side of the Force. ”
poor Captain Antilles.
This is a hybrid really – a tribute poster mixed with a propaganda poster. But, it’s very well done.
“These aren’t the droids we’re looking for.” Stormtroopers are SO smart…
The Rebels
Of course. ”That boy is our last hope.” What was that, Yoda?
“No, there is another.” That’s right!
There are some mixed messages going on here. But basically we’re just trying to restore freedom to the galaxy, hang with some furry dudes, and stop kissing our brother. Yay!
metal bikini. somebody had to include the metal bikini.
“R2, why did you have to be so brave?”
I don’t know who that’s supposed to be, but I love this artist’s style. Don’t forget to check out each artist’s page, listed at the bottom of the post.
Montage. Something you’d see on Luke Skywalker’s bedroom wall.
“The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.”
