Despair, Inc. tells us that “motivational products don’t work, but our Demotivators® products – Demotivational Posters – don’t work even better.”
This company, born out of the sense of ridiculousness anyone with half a brain feels when they see an actual motivational poster, has been around, incorporated, since 1998, and has a list of designs to delight and uninspire you. JM Barrie said that ambition was “the last infirmity of noble minds.” What does it say that the picture that accompanies Despair, Inc.’s quote about ambition is a salmon swimming upstream only to be eaten by a bear. Salmon have to breed in the same spot they were born, or something, so their journey is not as much about ambition as it is a biological necessity so do whatever you want to with that.
